Manuel Bicho

 

     Manuel Diamantino Pires Bicho, MD,PhD (University of Lisbon ) is Full Professor of Genetics in University of Lisbon School of Medicine, Director of Genetics Laboratory and Principal Investigator of the Environmental Health Institute of the same Academic Medical Center of Lisbon where is leader of the Ecogenetic Group and also, it´s the Scientific Director of Rocha Cabral Research Institute (IICBRC).

     It´s main interests in research are: the biochemical ecogenetics,in its global epidemiological perspective,of disorders associated with oxidative stress and aging namely obesity, diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, autoimmune diseases, cancer and osteoporosis, also is interested in the characterization of anti-oxidants with biological and therapeutic potential.

     It was leader of three FCT projects, four years each (1996 – 2008), of the Metabolism and Endocrinology Center, also collaborated with University of Lisbon Center of Cardiology (2008 – 2012) and five other projects.

     Published 200 full text papers, 80 indexed in PubMed, 300 abstracts (150 in indexed publications), from oral and poster communications in international meetings, also published 10 chapters in books. He has 18 prizes. It was mentor of 20 BSc theses. 10 MSc theses and 15 PhD theses.

     During its sabbatical (1999-2000) was Visiting Associated Professor in Harvard´s Medical School affiliated Hospital,the Brigham and Women´s in the Endocrinology Diabetes Hypertension Division.
